Information about Vitoria:

As of January 1 2004, the city had 224,965 inhabitants. One of the characteristics of the democratic structure of Vitoria-Gasteiz is its adult population, the largest group corresponding to persons of between 27 and 32 years of age. Another characteristic is the fact that it is a growing city (1% more than the previous year), as a result of the influx of immigrants - eloquent proof the dynamism of Vitoria-Gasteiz's economy.

The largest age group in the population pyramid is made up of persons of between 25 and 29 years of age, followed by persons aged between 30 and 34. One of the facts that explains the increase in demand for housing is precisely the demographic situation of the city. The average age has increased a few tenths over the last year, from 40 to 40.57.

There are slightly more males and females among children, young people and adults, but as of 70 years of age, there are more women than men.

The last population census of January 1 2004, showed that Alava has a total population of 295,509 inhabitants. 220,163 were recorded in Vitoria-Gasteiz, and 75,346 in the rest of the province. Population density is 96.29 inhabitants/km2.

The working population stands at 137,000 people, while the occupation rate is 62.2% (first quarter of 2004). Population forecasts for the year 2016 indicate that Alava will maintain positive growth, representing an increase in its relative position.
