The province of Alava has always used its own tax system as an instrument in its economic policy, in order to promote its development and well-being.

To illustrate the level of the autonomy of the Basque Country, the Provincial Council of Alava controls the personal income tax system and has sufficient capacity to take its own decisions concerning company tax regulations. With regard to other business-oriented taxation matters, the Provincial Council of Alava expects to update its balances and the tax system for cooperatives and worker-managed companies.
